Glenelg is a beachside suburb of Adelaide. Located on the shore of Holdfast Bay in Gulf St Vincent it is a popular destination due to its beach and many attractions including hotels and many restaurants. It is a 25-minute tram ride from Adelaide’s centre and 10-minutes from the airport.

Established in 1836, it is the oldest European settlement on mainland South Australia.

The popularity of Glenelg as a seaside destination certainly hasn’t waned over the years. Wander the buzzing dining and shopping strip of Jetty Road, browse some of the hundreds of specialty stores or dine in an al-fresco restaurant. For more stylish dining, head down to Holdfast Marina, a great place to enjoy Glenelg’s magnificent sunsets.



Glenelg is 8.5kms or 15 minutes’ drive from Adelaide Airport. A taxi fare to the city is approximately $25.00. There is a $3 levy added to fares for taxis leaving the airport.

Adelaide Metro Buses operate to/from the Adelaide Airport. It offers a convenient JetBus service to Glenelg, West Beach and the City, servicing all stops en route. These services are Metroticket services. Single trip and daytrip tickets can be purchased from bus drivers. The Airport offers a door to door Airport City Shuttle Bus from Adelaide Airport to Hotels and Businesses. Bookings are not needed, just make your way to the information and tourism bookings booth and the staff will help you with your booking and inform you of shuttle times which is approximately every 30 minutes.

City Shuttle Bus operating hours are as follows:

  • Monday – Friday from 8am – 9pm
  • Saturdays from 8am – 6pm.
  • Sundays from 8am – 5pm.

Ride sharing services such as Uber are now available at Adelaide Airport. The designated pick up facility is just to the left of the short term car park as you leave the terminal. Walk across the main pedestrian plaza and then cross at the pedestrian lights at the pick-up and drop-off zone.

You will need to book your ride-sharing service using the relevant app before proceeding to the pick-up facility.

There is a $3 levy added to fares for ride-sharing services leaving the airport.
